About The Position

Shermco Industries is seeking a Protection and Control Technician. The Protection and Controls (P&C) Technician will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders (DFR's), remote terminal units (RTU's), and communication processors. Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in the electrical testing industry with a focus on protection and control equipment, RTU's, and telecom with HV utility, co-op, power generation, federal, or municipal clients.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Technology in similar discipline, or Technical school diploma, or military experience in either Army Prime Power or Navy Nuclear electrical program.
  • Experience with transmission and distribution relays to include SEL, GE, ABB, and Westinghouse.
  • Experience with substation RTU's, communication processors, and telecom equipment for both brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Experienced with scoping, scheduling, and budgeting process for protection and control, RTU, and telecom projects for both internal and external entities.
  • Experience with project management of protection and control teams working in HV substations for utility clients.
  • Familiar with NERC CIP requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders (DFR's), remote terminal units (RTU's), and communication processors.
  • Functional testing for protection and control circuitry associated with transmission lines, HV bus, transformer, circuit breaker, feeder, reactors, and capacitor banks.
  • RTU and telecom upgrades for various clients.
  • Experienced with SEL microprocessor relays such as 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787.
  • Desired experienced with GE microprocessor relays such as C30, D60, F35, L90, T35 and T60.
  • Required experienced with various RTU's and communication processors such as GE, Telvent, SEL, Cooper, and Novatech.
  • Accurately reviewing, documenting, and submitting test reports used for client reporting and regulatory purposes.
  • Interpret one line, three line, wiring, schematic diagrams, communication configurations with ability to recognize and bring attention to discrepancies.
  • Accurately completes time and expense reports along with maintaining good condition of assigned company vehicle.
