About The Position

The Electrical Engineer II or III (High Voltage, Protection & Controls) role contributes to the design and delivery of protection, control, and communication systems for renewable energy and high-voltage substation projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, this role performs detailed design, analysis, and modeling, supporting the full project lifecycle from preliminary design through commissioning. This is a multi-phase role that evolves through the project delivery process, from an initial stronger design focus, to SCADA and relay settings, and later to field and commissioning support. Engineer II candidates will focus on applying established methods and standards with guidance, while Engineer III candidates will independently execute complex assignments, contribute to process improvements, and mentor less experienced team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • 2+ years (Engineer II) or 5+ years (Engineer III) of relevant experience in power delivery, transmission, or substation engineering.
  • Prior experience in protection and controls (P&C) design for substations, including developing relay and SCADA settings.
  • Proficiency with SCADA and communication systems for substation automation.
  • Intermediate (EII) or Advanced (EIII) proficiency with AutoCAD, including use of layers, attributes, and dynamic blocks.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering and modeling software tools such as ETAP, ASPEN OneLiner, SKM PowerTools, SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista, and other protective relay or SCADA configuration platforms.
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850 communication protocols
  • Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, equipment, and protection principles for high-voltage systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems effectively.
  • A passion for optimization, innovation, and finding efficiencies in processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and organized with strong time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Substation Design Suite for P&C.
  • EIT certification or active pursuit of PE licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex electrical engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects.
  • Prepare and review electrical design drawings, including one-line and three-line diagrams, panel elevations, AC/DC schematics, AC/DC cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and related documentation.
  • Perform power system modeling and relay coordination studies using ASPEN and/or ETAP.
  • Prepare protection and control design basis documentation, perform relay setting calculations, and generate configuration files using SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista, or equivalent vendor tools.
  • Develop SCADA system and communication interface settings for substation equipment.
  • Support field and commissioning teams with engineering assistance during construction and energization.
  • Optimize protection scheme templates and tools for improved efficiency and standardization.
  • Perform design tasks on small projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
  • Ensure all work complies with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
  • Participate in quality reviews to confirm compliance with Revamp standards and client requirements.
  • Travel up to 10% to client sites, fabrication yards, or field locations for coordination, site verification, or commissioning support as required.
  • Work under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • For Engineer II: receive close supervision and thorough review of completed work for professional soundness.
  • For Engineer III: receive guidance primarily on unconventional or complex problems; perform independent evaluations and adaptations of standard approaches.
