About The Position

The Prospect Research Analyst plays a central role in advancing philanthropy by partnering with Philanthropy staff. This position proactively identifies and assesses prospects through preliminary and in-depth research and helps grow and prioritize the donor pipeline. This position works closely with Philanthropy staff to identify and qualify prospects who have both interests and ability to support the organization. The role ensures timely and accurate deliverables and maintains data integrity. The role regularly reports on activity and collaborates with staff to provide actionable insights to support donor engagement, inform fundraising strategy, and propel prospects through the Moves Management cycle.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in prospect research/prospect management, development or information field.
  • Proficiency in leveraging the use of technology for successful prospect and information research.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize, interpret and evaluate complex information from numerous sources (IRS forms, SEC filings, real property resources, biographical data, charitable giving databases, news sites, etc.) to inform others and develop strategies.
  • Able to initiate and perform analysis to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Ability to work proactively, without prompting, as well as to respond to requests and changing needs and priorities.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with background internet-based research, relational databases including Salesforce and MS office products, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Able to handle and prioritize multiple projects; produce high quality results in a timely manner, and work with a high degree of independence.
  • A basic understanding of nonprofit philanthropy and Moves Management.
  • Possess maturity, judgment, and professionalism to work productively with Canine Companions senior leadership, major and planned giving staff, and others.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • Demonstrate an affinity for the mission and work of Canine Companions for Independence.

Responsibilities

  • Prospect Identification & Research: Run routine reports and prepare preliminary and in-depth qualification reports on individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Conduct and validate wealth screenings, including batch screenings for targeted groups.
  • Analyze complex data from multiple sources—such as IRS and SEC filings, real property records, charitable giving databases, and news outlets—to assess financial capacity, philanthropic interests, and giving propensity.
  • Track select donors and prospects through news alerts and communicate relevant updates to staff.
  • Prepare donor profiles and research briefings for strategy meetings, donor meetings, and events.
  • Maintain accurate and timely prospect records in Salesforce.
  • Prospect Management & Administration: Participate in Moves Management meetings and contribute research insights related to portfolio and prospect strategy.
  • Respond to prospect management inquiries and provide guidance on record creation, portfolio transfers, and research documentation.
  • Ensure qualification reports are uploaded and kept current in Salesforce, coordinating updates with the Senior Prospect Research Analyst as needed.
  • Distribute routine reports to philanthropy and other staff, including DAF, check batch, Qgiv, and ACH reports.
  • Maintain organizational profiles on external sites and support process documentation and efficiency improvements.
  • Other Duties: Serve staff and organizational constituents in alignment with core values and perform other related duties as assigned.
