About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking a Propulsion Engineer to join the Energy and Propulsion team within the Engineering Technology & Innovation (ET&I) organization in St. Louis, MO. This role is open for Mid-Level and Senior Level Propulsion Engineers. The ET&I Energy and Propulsion team is dedicated to advancing aerospace by designing and integrating cutting-edge propulsion systems across all speed regimes, from subsonic to hypersonic. In this position, the engineer will be involved in developing next-generation air vehicles, leading hands-on testing and analysis, collaborating with suppliers, and mentoring emerging engineers. As part of Boeing Technology Innovation, the role involves working across the Boeing Enterprise, building connections with colleagues at domestic and international sites to push the boundaries of propulsion systems for diverse customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 3+ years of experience in propulsion engineering
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, requiring a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in applying knowledge of internal and external flow characteristics related to inlets, nozzles, and engine operation with the capability to perform propulsion system analysis tasks
  • Experience in planning, conducting, coordinating, or developing test requirements for wind tunnel, ground, or flight testing to evaluate the performance characteristics of propulsion systems, their components, or supporting technologies
  • Understanding of the interactions between propulsion, aerodynamics, and flight controls as part of a collaborative Flight Sciences engineering team
  • Foundational knowledge of gas turbine engine operation and thermodynamics
  • Foundational knowledge of propulsion integration and engine-inlet matching
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. CATIA, NX) for inlet geometry design
  • Experience with high-speed aerodynamics, compressible flow and inlet design principles
  • Experience with inlet performance analysis, including shock wave management and boundary layer control
  • Experience with real world component and hardware integration
  • Experience with thermodynamic cycle modeling tools & methods

Responsibilities

  • Defines, coordinates, and controls the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle
  • Configures or designs propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance specifications
  • Performs or leads a range of testing, analysis, modeling, and simulation activities aimed at predicting and validating system performance
  • Development of concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements
  • Support development of specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements
  • Propulsion vendor management and coordination
  • Works independently under direction from Subject Matter Experts
  • Ability to mentor early career engineers
