This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will support the New Shepard Engines Flight Support Engineering team in all aspects of engine maintenance, inspection, repair, overhaul, process planning, and life-cycle management. The Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul MRO Engineer will lead interdisciplinary teams to support flight engine maintenance operations and to implement systemic solutions for operational and technical issues. The MRO Engineer ensures that all flight critical maintenance is complete and works collectively with manufacturing engineers and the New Shepard program to support all aspects of flight engine maintenance, and flight support work execution. Requirements

  • Minimum of a BS in Engineering required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, technical requirements, and drawings
  • 2-5 years of direct manufacturing, test, flight, or MRO experience in aerospace or related industry with precision assembly requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership
  • Familiarity with best practices regarding safety, the use of pneumatics, hydraulics, avionics, and hardware cleanliness
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the product life-cycle of our flight engines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work safely on the floor in an aerospace production environment
  • Familiarity with CAD applications (ProE preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with launch vehicle, rocket engine build and repair, aircraft MRO, or spacecraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul operations
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing predictive and preventive maintenance, inspection, and overhaul plans, as well as troubleshooting and providing technical support.
  • Thorough understanding of preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and corrective maintenance processes
  • Working knowledge of engines and subcomponents, such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves, and other fluid components.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, hardware assembly processes, and quality control
  • Familiarity with common NDT and inspection methods, including visual, dye penetrant, ultrasound, x-ray, CT scan, Eddy Current, XRF scan
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight.
  • Hands-on experience with building engine assemblies and subassemblies for test

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of pre- and post-flight engine maintenance, inspection, repair, and overhaul
  • Interpret design engineering requirements to direct touch-labor technicians in the maintenance, inspection, and installation of flight engine hardware
  • Establish, implement, and maintain quality system processes that support engine products for flight operations
  • Directly support hardware assembly and installation for flight operations
  • Interface with Kent and Texas Engines engineers to organize and achieve outlined flight objectives
  • Maintain hardware documentation pedigree to support human capable flight
  • Assist with flight engine schedule estimations and execution
  • Use continuous improvement tools to reduce cycle inefficiencies and process waste
  • Support the development of test equipment and tooling to aid in the completion of test objectives
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
