About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space in Littleton, CO is seeking a mechanical engineer to join the Propulsion Specialties / Propulsion Analysis and Mission Operations team. In this role you will support: performance assessment of Lockheed Martin spacecraft and rocket propulsion systems; development of technical solutions for heritage and development space vehicles; and on-orbit operation of propulsion systems for commercial, civil, and national security spacecraft.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience with performance analysis of mechanical, propulsion, fluid, and/or thermal systems.
  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering or physical sciences discipline from an ABET accredited college or university (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or similar).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance; US citizenship is required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and data processing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to troubleshoot and respond to problems; test, production, or operations experience in a professional capacity (does not need to be aerospace or engineering related).
  • Education or experience with performance analysis of mechanical, fluid, or thermal systems.
  • Education or experience with thermofluid, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (e.g. ANSYS, COMSOL, Nastran, Sinda Fluint, Thermal Desktop, etc.)
  • Programming experience (MATLAB, Fortran, Python, or C/C++)
  • Active Department of Defense security clearance (Secret level)

Responsibilities

  • Conducting fluid and thermal analyses from first-principles and through finite element methods.
  • Developing new tools for the assessment of nozzles, pressure vessels, control valves, regulators, thrusters, and propellants.
  • Presenting analyses and engineering products to internal and external reviewers.
  • Providing timely and accurate response for on-orbit mission events.
