The Proposal Engineer is a key role in enabling McNaughton-McKay’s Services and Solutions (SaS) team to maintain a profitable business model by helping to increase our customers’ success. This role is both technically and commercially involved in Pre-Sales activities, with ultimate responsibility for the development of accurate and professional SaS proposals. The proposal engineer role is also key in helping to provide clarity to the SaS Post-Sales team, as well as participating in external customer project kickoff meetings to review the project scope for all parties.

  • Provides input for the SaS business plan that capitalizes on existing customer relationships, new customer opportunities, and market changes to enhance the growth of the Services and Solutions offering.
  • Develops technical proposals that provide a well-defined scope, represents McNaughton-McKay’s value proposition, limits risk, and maximizes revenue.
  • Technically and commercially evaluates and responds to client-supplied requests for proposals (RFPs), including technical specification review.
  • Follows the established SaS workflow management process, while also helping develop new efficiencies and standardization.
  • Consistently includes add-on, bundled, and contract-based services to single-engagement proposals.
  • Develops relationships with a wide variety of internal and external customers within the region’s customer base.
  • Fosters supplier relationships that help ensure McNaughton-McKay gets best-in-class technical, project/program management, sales, marketing, channel, and support on commercial issues.
  • Supports sales efforts by collaborating with the SaS business development team as well as McNaughton-McKay account managers.
  • Identifies and understands projects and programs in the Services and Solutions space.
  • Ensures that customer and supplier contracts are reviewed by the appropriate internal personnel.
  • Coordinates the transition of projects from the pre-sales team to the order management and implementation teams.
  • Plays a part in building the technical know-how of the individual SaS team members.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or other technical field or Business with technical experience in the factory automation field. Industry experience (5+ years) will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • High degree of knowledge in the electrical industry.
  • Follow-up, follow through, and planning skills required.
  • Work history demonstrating self-motivation and self-management.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of people not under their direct control in a fast-paced team environment as well as the ability to create and maintain positive relationships.
  • Polished and professional technical/business communication skills and ability to interact with customers and vendors in a professional and business-appropriate manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of the assigned services and solutions offering, as well as broad McNaughton-McKay product offering.
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills.
