About The Position

UW-Madison's Office of Risk Management is recruiting a Property Risk Manager to join its team of energetic, collaborative risk professionals. This high-profile position provides the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to lead UW-Madison's diverse property risk management program, including risk mitigation activities and the administration, management, and resolution of property damage claims impacting campus departments, buildings, and research facilities. In addition to program management, the Property Risk Manager provides guidance to the Risk Management Specialist I position in supporting and assisting in the efficient administration of property damage claims. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with key campus stakeholders and departmental leadership to identify, design, and implement property risk mitigation initiatives for the campus. As a member of the Office of Risk Management's team of risk professionals, the Property Risk Manager will work collaboratively with Facilities, Planning and Maintenance staff, campus departmental staff, and faculty members to evaluate and analyze information related to property damage and loss events; actively manage property insurance claims to resolution; evaluate risk-related activities and respond to risk-related questions, requests, and investigations. In addition, the Property Risk Manager will be a key participant in the Office of Risk Management's delivery of risk-related education and training to the UW-Madison campus community. The position will also analyze property losses, develop reports, and lead the Office of Risk Management initiatives in aiding the entire UW-Madison campus in property loss control efforts. Among the various activities and responsibilities of the position, the Property Risk Manager will participate in physical inspection of campus facilities to identify and assess property risk exposures, providing recommendations to mitigate UW-Madison risks and exposure to property damage losses. The Property Risk Manager will also review, populate, and verify the accuracy of property claims information in the Riskonnect claims database; analyze property claims data; and manage/update property claims processing instructions and property risk management information that is presented to the campus community on Risk Management's website. The position will also assist in performing financial accounting transactions necessary to record and facilitate the distribution of property claims insurance recovery proceeds to campus departments sustaining financial loss. This is a partially remote position, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week working in person on campus or at one of UW-Madison’s off-site campus locations within the State of Wisconsin.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience or demonstrated interest in property damage claims administration and/or risk management processes.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate professionally and effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and effectively in a self-directed manner, with only general supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems through exercising accurate, appropriate, and independent judgment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and information management databases.
  • Ability to provide on-site physical inspection of property damage occurrences impacting UW-Madison campus buildings, agricultural field stations, and other UW-Madison locations.
  • REQUIRED: H.S.Diploma

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience with property damage claims handling and administrative processes for commercially insured or self-insured property risks.
