About The Position

This is specialized clerical work with extensive public contact related to property tax exemption administration in the Property Appraiser of Miami Dade County (PA). Employees in this class are responsible for examining, evaluating, reconciling, and researching various property tax exemption applications and records to determine benefit eligibility and level of eligibility; prepare evidence and records of PA decisions for Value Adjustment Board (VAB) legal hearings; is heavily engaged in dealing with customers both in the office and through outreach events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of clerical experience in a tax assessment, property appraisal, property tax exemption, or real estate sales abstracting titles is required.
  • Completion of 30 semester credits may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Intake and process property tax exemption applications
  • Research and examine facts, evidence, records, documents, and statements reconciling with property tax roll data to determine and evaluate eligibility and level of eligibility for current-year exemptions.
  • Prepare related property tax records and forms for the Department of Revenue, Tax Collector, and Clerk of Courts.
  • Evaluate and calculate exemptions and assessment differentials.
  • Prepare and evaluate evidence and documents of Property Appraiser's Office decisions for legal hearings at the Value Adjustment Board for all statutory property tax exemptions.
  • Prepare case files, documents, official correspondence, related notices, and lien documents in accordance with state laws and policy to ensure due process and case integrity.
  • Review, evaluate, and reconcile external records and information with applicant records and data to make decisions and determinations of continued eligibility.
  • Analyze, review, and verify basic tax roll data validation reports and adjust and correct discrepancies.
  • Review and analyze land and building records to determine and calculate applicable use percentages per exemption.
