About The Position

The Property & Casualty Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal personal lines policies within a reputable insurance company. This role requires ensuring compliance with underwriting and pricing guidelines while maintaining a profitable loss ratio. The underwriter will work in a fast-paced environment, providing excellent service to general agency partners and insureds, and will assist in various underwriting tasks and special projects as needed.

Requirements

• A 4-year college degree from an accredited institution is strongly desired.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Property and Casualty underwriting or general agency Property and Casualty experience.
• Insurance Producer license required upon beginning work.
• Professional designations such as CPCU or CIC are a plus.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with home and farm policies.
• Familiarity with endorsements and pro-rata computations.

Responsibilities

• Review policies bound and issued by general agents for compliance with underwriting and pricing guidelines.
• Maintain an acceptable loss ratio on all business for which the individual is responsible.
• Follow up with general agents for required underwriting information such as applications, photos, and questionnaires.
• Discuss and consider for approval new and renewal policies, assessing past and potential loss frequency and severity.
• Review endorsements and cancellations on policies, approving them according to company guidelines and applicable statutes.
• Provide prompt and friendly service to general agency partners and insureds.
• Interact courteously and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist the Property & Casualty Underwriting Manager and/or President on special projects as requested.
• Assist in the development of new products, coverage, or classification reviews as needed.
• Support colleagues when necessary as requested.
