About The Position

As a Property Adjuster Specialist at USAA, you will play a crucial role in investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling complex property insurance claims for military members and their families. This position emphasizes a virtual-first approach to claims handling, utilizing technology for inspections while also requiring fieldwork within your assigned territory. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
  • 2 years of relevant property claims adjusting experience with moderate complexity losses.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools.
  • Proficient knowledge of residential construction and property claims contracts.
  • Strong negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven investigatory, analytical, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the year and work catastrophe duty when needed.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
  • Prior field experience handling higher severity/complex losses.
  • Experience adjusting property claims using virtual technologies.
  • Industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, AIC, SCLA (or actively pursuing).
  • Xactimate Level 1 and/or Level 2 certification.
  • Prior deployments in support of catastrophes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned claims caseload of complex damages requiring knowledge of claims coverage and legal liability.
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution.
  • Investigate claim damages through research from various sources, including insured and third parties.
  • Identify coverage concerns and create Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals when appropriate.
  • Negotiate complex claims settlements within authority limits and collaborate with management for amounts outside authority limits.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough claim file documentation throughout the claims process.
  • Utilize estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools to prepare claims estimates.
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including on-call duties and potential travel.
  • Work independently to solve complex problems and act as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • Adjust complex claims involving attorney participation and jurisdictional challenges.
