About The Position

As a Property Adjuster Specialist at USAA, you will work within defined guidelines and framework to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex property insurance claims. Your role will involve confirming and analyzing coverage, recognizing liability exposure, and negotiating equitable settlements in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. You will also empathize with members' life events as appropriate. This position focuses on using technology and desk adjusting for a virtual-first approach to inspections and claims handling, while also providing a company vehicle for physical inspections within your locally assigned territory. Field Adjusters may need to travel outside their local territory to respond to claims in other regions when necessary. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with paid overtime available.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • 2 years of relevant property claims adjusting experience of moderate complexity losses, including writing estimates for dwelling and structural damages.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools and platforms.
  • Proficient knowledge of residential construction and property claims contracts.
  • Proficient negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven investigatory, analytical, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the year (local & non-local) and/or work catastrophe duty when needed.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on a Property Catastrophe team handling inside or field claims (i.e. wind, hail, hurricane, flooding).
  • Experience adjusting large loss complex property claims caused by catastrophic events.
  • Residential property adjusting experience handling DWG, APS and ALE adjustments.
  • Estimate writing skills using Xactimate, ClaimsX or virtual estimating.
  • Xactimate level 1 and/or level 2 certification.
  • Insurance Industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, AIC, SCLA.
  • Currently hold an active P&C Adjuster license.
  • Prior experience working directly for a standard insurance carrier.
  • Available to work extended hours to support CAT claims.
  • Currently reside in the Fort Worth, TX area.
  • US military service or military spouse.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage assigned claims caseload comprised of complex damages requiring knowledge of claims coverage and potential legal liability.
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate complex claims resolution, including external regulatory coordination.
  • Investigate claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources.
  • Identify coverage concerns, review prior loss history, and create Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals when appropriate.
  • Determine and negotiate complex claims settlements within authority limits, collaborating with management for amounts outside of authority limits.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.
  • Utilize estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools to prepare claims estimates.
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work.
  • May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.
  • Work independently solving complex problems with minimal guidance and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Adjust complex claims with attorney involvement and address jurisdictional challenges.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
