About The Position

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Projectionist to join our team. About ArtCenter Founded in 1930 and located in Pasadena, California, ArtCenter College of Design is a global leader in art and design education and has had an international reputation for its rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. ArtCenter is a private nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Reporting to the Auditoriums Supervisor the Projectionist is responsible for the daily operation and technical support of classes, screenings, and events in the Ahmanson Auditorium and Los Angeles Times Media Center. The incumbent focuses on hands-on execution, first-line troubleshooting, and high-quality customer service for faculty, students, administrators, and guest speakers. This position ensures rooms are prepared, systems are operational, and events run smoothly, while escalating system-level issues and non-standard workflows to the Auditoriums Specialist II or Auditoriums Supervisor. This is a full-time, on-site position with a 35-hour schedule that may vary based on class and event needs, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in auditorium, media center, or live event AV environments
  • Working knowledge of audiovisual systems, projection, audio reinforcement, and live event workflows
  • Familiarity with presentation and playback software such as Zoom, PowerPoint, Keynote, Acrobat, and media playback applications
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills
  • Ability to follow established procedures and exercise judgment in live-production environments
  • Knowledge of fire safety regulations and safe work practices
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities
  • Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in Film, Media Arts, Audio Visual, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in higher education or institutional AV environments
  • CTS or related audiovisual technology certifications
  • Basic understanding of signal flow and low-voltage AV systems

Responsibilities

  • Prepare auditoriums for classes and events, including powering systems, verifying audio, video, lighting, and playback readiness
  • Operate AV systems during classes, screenings, lectures, and special events
  • Conduct tech checks with faculty, staff, and guest speakers prior to events
  • Provide professional, customer-focused support to instructors, administrators, students, and guests
  • Monitor room conditions and address routine issues to maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment
  • Communicate schedule changes, issues, and observations to the Auditoriums Supervisor or Specialist II
  • Operate digital cinema and media playback systems, including DCP, Blu-ray, digital files, and streaming sources
  • Support hybrid and Zoom-integrated classes and events using established workflows
  • Provide first line troubleshooting for common AV issues involving playback software, connectivity, audio, and displays
  • Connect and configure presenter devices (Mac, PC, tablets) with appropriate system settings
  • Support occasional instructional 35mm film screenings as scheduled, following established procedures and escalation guidelines
  • Escalate system-level failures, network issues, or non-standard configurations to the Auditoriums Specialist II or Supervisor
  • Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and/or councils
  • Other duties as assigned
