Role description: Arcadis is looking for a Part-time as Needed Project Water Wastewater Engineer to join our growing team in either Arlington, Virginia, or Hanover, Maryland! This position is on a Part-time as Needed (PTAN) basis, which means the hours assigned will vary depending on the workload. This is ideal for an individual looking for that level of flexibility. The candidate in this role will provide technical expertise and leadership to our team of highly skilled engineers, while leading tasks/projects simultaneously and applying technical knowledge and expertise to develop the team’s overall capabilities. Projects will include water/wastewater engineering, investigations, studies, analysis, designs, and construction administration services.

Requirements

  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or a related field of study.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years of relevant water/wastewater experience.
  • Master of Science/Engineering in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or a related field of study.
  • Experience in design or consulting engineering or Municipal work environment.
  • Project task leadership experience including managing overall project delivery expectations, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional association(s).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, plan, design, permit and support management of projects for water/wastewater and conveyance (pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities).
  • Overseeing the development of design calculations, technical report sections, technical design drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation of project requirements.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and other audio-visual materials while actively participating in client meetings to foster effective client communication and project alignment.
  • Ensuring project compliance with all Arcadis practices and maintaining quality, health, and safety standards are paramount responsibilities.
  • Facilitating coordination for timely project completion within budget constraints is essential to meet project milestones successfully.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting is needed, with a readiness to engage in collaboration with team members located across different geographical locations.
  • Supervising and supporting the work of others, as well as mentoring junior-level engineering and design/drafting staff, are fundamental aspects of this position to uphold project standards and foster professional development within the team.
  • The job may require some travel for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, general planning purposes, or overseeing construction activities based on project staffing needs.
