Role description: We are searching for a Staff Water Engineer to support and grow our Water team in New York, NY. This candidate will use their expertise and technical knowledge to deliver design work for water/wastewater clients in New York and across North America. We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Role accountabilities: As a Staff Water Engineer you will evaluate, plan, design, and support management of stormwater and resiliency projects including drainage planning, green infrastructure design, and flood mitigation systems. You will need to exercise judgement on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Completing technical analyses and report writing with guidance from more senior team members will be a key part in your role. You will perform fieldwork activities such as site visits, construction observation, sampling, water quality analyses, asset inventory, and flow monitoring set-up and monitoring.. You will support professional engineering services during construction including review of shop drawings, responses to request for information (RFI's), and permit closeouts. Managing tasks as a project resource, completing allocated activities to meet budget, timeframe and quality objectives and meeting or exceeding client expectations will be expected in your position. You will need to carry out investigations and analyses to support the development of technical solutions, as well as prepare documentation and reports ensuring accuracy and compliance with Arcadis requirements and relevant national standards and codes of practice. In this role you will liaise with project managers/team leaders and clients to ensure effective communication on project matters. You will also contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects and provide technical guidance to other team members as well as collaborate with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design or solution. Part of your responsibilities will be to review completed engineering work to ensure it meets specified standards and to further develop understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, of the client’s business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to develop personal credibility in the industry. Requirements

  • Detail oriented with knowledge of relevant national standards and codes of practice.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and mentor junior staff.
  • Advanced data gathering, technical writing and analysis skills.
  • Developing skills including technical, project management, relationship management, sector expertise and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, time management and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering AND PE Certification.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or other design software.
  • Experience with stormwater management calculations and green infrastructure design.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with computer programming tools like SQL, Python, or Ruby.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, particularly using SWMM and/or ICM along with proficiency in GIS
