About The Position

Project Technicians are responsible for leading, troubleshooting, and resolving issues on-site of Automation Systems and performing automated system installations. The Automation Technician is the front-line face to the customer for onsite commissioning of our automated measurement systems and equipment. Our automated solutions utilize various automation components (robots, gantry lifts, conveyors, AGVs, PLCs) to automate the part measurement process as well as part loading and handing. The Automation Technician will be responsible for the proper installation and startup of these solutions at the customer location. This role requires demonstrating customer service skills and knowledge with a high level of passion and dedication to completing the job with craftmanship and on-time. The ideal candidate is solutions-oriented with the ability to work independently in a high pressure, fast-paced and innovative environment. Project Technicians represent ZEISS as the onsite lead during installation of all Project related content and communicate issues back to engineers and project managers. Requirements

  • Must have a 2yr Technical Degree or equivalent experience
  • Must have mechanical inclinations
  • Must have a strong technical aptitude
  • Must have a sound knowledge of PC use and applications
  • Must have good communication skills with the ability to articulate technical information in a simple and concise manner and create technical reports
  • Must have mechanical detailing - reading blueprints, CAD Drawings, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3 years of electromechanical related experience
  • Previous experience installing, troubleshooting industrial electronics, electrical systems or computer systems
  • Forklift experience and certification

Responsibilities

  • Leading, troubleshooting, and resolving issues on-site of Automation Systems
  • Performing automated system installations
  • Onsite commissioning of automated measurement systems and equipment
  • Proper installation and startup of automated solutions at the customer location
  • Demonstrate customer service skills and knowledge with a high level of passion and dedication to completing the job with craftmanship and on-time
  • Represent ZEISS as onsite lead during installation of all Project related content
  • Communicate issues back to engineers and project managers
  • Read blueprints and electrical schematics
  • Install, troubleshoot, and run off automation systems
  • Use hand tools such as wrenches, electric drills, and volt meters when needed
  • Accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices, and leveling equipment
  • Adherence to strict safety rules and regulations, and wearing safety equipment PPE
  • Direct and support skilled trades personnel during the installation of ZEISS automated measurement systems
  • Mechanically adjust complex assemblies
  • Communicate on site installation status to project manager
  • Work with and validate deliverables of ZEISS contractors & vendors
  • Document system acceptance and provide installation report to project manager and customer
  • Prepare custom documentation for the operation of each unique system
  • Conduct training classes for the customer on system use and maintenance
