About The Position

The Project Student Intern - Signal/CAD Drafter position at Alaska Railroad is designed to provide practical experience in railroad signal engineering. The intern will focus on upgrading signal drawings and plans using AutoCAD while assisting in various signal project areas to enhance their engineering education. This role involves collaboration with higher-level engineers and performing tasks that contribute to the successful completion of engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college or university in a curriculum leading to an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts and principles.
  • Knowledge of advanced math (geometry, algebra, and trigonometry).
  • Ability to operate a computer and use AutoCAD system and software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Signal Management in the design and layout of railroad signal projects.
  • Perform calculations and develop sketches of proposed designs.
  • Assist in engineering plans for power generation and consumption.
  • Provide inspection services during construction and prepare local State and Federal permits.
  • Utilize the department's CADD system and software to develop drawings, graphs, tables, and reports.
  • Gather, develop, analyze, and present operational data from railroad work programs.
