Farallon is currently seeking a Project Scientist who will work collaboratively with Principal, Associate, and Project Managers in California and other regions on Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) Reports. This is a full-time role within Farallon that will assist other technical staff and Project Managers with work supporting Phase I ESA report writing, but may include a broader range of projects that reflect Farallon’s core practices including: Environmental compliance; Contaminated site investigation and remediation; and Developing scopes of work and cost estimates for Phase 2 ESAs. This position may be based out of any of our Washington, Oregon, or California offices. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a clear understanding of ASTM E1527 and ASTM E2247. and who currently, or will soon, qualify as an Environmental Professional. We are seeking candidates with specific knowledge of the regulatory framework and requirements in California, anticipated changes, and industry perspectives. Your job will require a professional knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques completing Phase I ESAs and an ability to professionally represent Farallon to clients, vendors, regulatory agencies, and others. Obtain and evaluate historical and regulatory records; Interview local and state agencies; Assesses background information and data; records, compiles, and interprets data; and prepares text, tables, and figures for reports. Accurately interpret data relative to applicable regulations and standards. Provide ongoing support to the Due Diligence team; Prepare Phase I ESA reports with minimal support from senior managers to achieve quality goals, meet schedules, and remain within budgets. Prepare Phase I ESA proposals and other scopes of work as needed at the direction of senior managers. Implement project quality control procedures to produce products that meet Farallon standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Arts in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Ideally 3-5 years of experience of Phase I ESA report writing experience.
  • Valid State driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Understanding of ASTM E1527 and E2247 and the requirements to satisfy USEPA All Appropriate Inquiries.
  • Strong knowledge of California State environmental framework and regulations.
  • General compliance knowledge of air, industrial wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste, stormwater, and hazardous materials storage are desirable.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and understanding of consulting business practices.
  • Strong written, communication, and Microsoft software suite skills.
  • Previous or current experience in environmental consulting strongly preferred, specifically due diligence and Phase I ESAs.
