About The Position

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Project Scheduler / Cost Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for developing, analyzing, reviewing, and approving project schedules and/or design-level cost estimates for large-scale, multi-discipline projects, including industrial design, design-build, construction, and transportation (DOT) projects. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with owner specifications and contract requirements, while providing strategic oversight, risk analysis, and cost estimating to support informed decision-making and successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in scheduling for large-scale construction projects.
  • 3+ years of Cost Estimating experience (vertical and horizontal construction).
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 for scheduling and reporting.
  • Expertise in CPM scheduling, TIA, schedule risk analysis, and mitigation planning.
  • Experience with RSMeans or equivalent estimating software.
  • Strong background supporting multimillion-dollar construction projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications (PSP, PMP, CCM, or equivalent).
  • Experience in both contractor and owner-representative roles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with vertical and transportation construction scheduling and estimating.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Review contractor-submitted schedules for compliance with DOT/owner specifications and contract requirements.
  • Assess schedule quality including activity logic, sequencing, milestones, durations, cost/resource loading, and WBS.
  • Review and approve DOT schedules, including IPS (Initial Project Schedule) and baseline schedules.
  • Perform as-built schedule analysis from Notice to Proceed through final acceptance.
  • Support requests for equitable adjustments and claims through detailed time-impact analysis (TIA) and schedule fragnets.
  • Monitor schedule updates, identify variances, and assess impacts.
  • Produce detailed schedule reports, variance analyses, and recommendations using Primavera P6 tools.
  • Analyze project plans/specifications to fully understand scope.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports (labor, materials, equipment).
  • Engage suppliers/contractors to obtain location-specific pricing.
  • Evaluate cost efficiency and recommend alternate methods, materials, or sequencing.
  • Identify and report potential cost overruns.
  • Conduct schedule/cost impact analysis for modifications and changes.
  • Perform risk assessments to identify potential delays or bottlenecks.
  • Recommend mitigation strategies and recovery plans.
  • Forecast manpower and resource requirements.
  • Support program-level strategic planning by aligning schedules with client priorities.
  • Collaborate with design, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Participate in monthly schedule review meetings with Owners and contractors.
  • Present clear, actionable insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with owner specifications and project contracts.
  • Maintain accurate submittal, approval, and correspondence records for audits and project history.
