About The Position

Implements and enforces company and/or customer safety programs and procedures in order to reduce the frequency of work-related accidents and injuries with emphasis on aggressive prevention efforts for on-the-job accidents and injuries. Travel required. Reports directly to the assigned Project Manager with guidance provided by the corporate Safety Manager Responsibilities Responsible for the safety atmosphere/culture along with the continuity of project administration. Maintains the safety programs and reporting (i.e. HR Department practices including setting up safety orientation, accident drug screens appointments, employee safety and evaluation records, accident investigation/reporting, safety guidance and performance of the personnel discipline procedures, federal, state, OSHA, DOT compliance, and applicable presentations). This position is responsible for maintaining relationships with trade associations, customers’ insurance companies and interacting with federal and state agencies. Implements appropriate safety programs and procedures in order to reduce the frequency of work related accidents and injuries with emphasis on aggressive prevention efforts of on-the-job accidents and injuries. Participates in loss control programs: employee injuries, health claims, equipment damage, material damage, job site security, and employee safety training. Participates in the enforcement of Company safety policies and procedures as well as special projects. Prepares statistical reports as requested. Maintains all necessary records and files for reporting and auditing purposes. Handles safety inquiries/situations through direct personal action. Prepares, composes, and initiates correspondence, memoranda, presentation material, and reports. Coordinates the collection and distribution of necessary safety program criteria/ information regarding established Company/Customer Safety Programs. Participates/assists the Education Department with safety training, OSHA training and safety certifications. Makes routine job site safety inspections. May serve as liaison with the community or other external agencies with regard to Company/Department activities, programs, and needs. Organizes and prioritizes workload to meet deadlines. Answers safety related inquiries, provides information and/or redirects inquiries as appropriate. Assists projects/department members with a variety of project-related safety activities. Evaluates results of safety program efforts as reported through various sources and determines appropriate actions. Operates responsibly within an authorized budget. Oversees and administers Company “Tool Box Talks” program. Selects and distributes topics for timely presentation. Accountable for accurate maintenance and posting of OSHA 300 log as required. Conducts timely accident investigations and takes appropriate action as defined by Company Policy. Manages and maintains project Hazcom Program (i.e. MSDS sheets, project records, project start up kits, etc.). Maintains records of employee safety training and certificates and provides information to Education Department as directed. Attends OSHA appeals if requested. Oversees and conducts directed care program as needed. Offers “Light Duty” programs after injuries where and if appropriate. Monitors Company substance abuse program and schedules random drug screens as directed. Assists with Company vehicle safety and with inspections of Company vehicles. Provides safety guidance to subcontractors as needed. As directed, provides and oversees PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) for the Company (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety goggles, lock out tags, pathogen kits, safety belts, lanyards, first aid kits, gloves, etc.). Assists management in Company and employee safety awards and bonuses (i.e. ABC STEP Award, ABC Awards of Excellence, MICCS Eagle Award, employee awards, etc.). Arranges meetings and conferences as directed. Maintains appropriate records, files, documentation, etc. Maintains confidentiality of all Company information. Maintains assigned computer data. Assists Safety Director with presentations and organization of Company events.

Requirements

  • Uses Gaylor Performance Values as tools to carry out all job responsibilities.
  • High school graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience.
  • Previous safety management/administration experience.
  • Knowledge of construction OSHA rules, regulations and record keeping.
  • Strong administrative, computer, organization, and communication skills required.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (port-o-lets).
  • Must wear personnel protective equipment (i.e. hard hat, safety glasses, and/or safety harness) when required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required on short notice.
  • Must work well with others as a member of a team to complete tasks.
  • Ability to remain calm in times of heightened emotional situations.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Possess good vision/hearing (normal or corrected).
  • Ability to work while constantly moving on one's feet.
  • Ability to reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance.
