About The Position

The Project R&D Engineer, Electromagnetics is responsible for interpreting complex engineering requirements to devise and deliver optimal design solutions for sophisticated medical device components, showcasing advanced technical expertise, working under limited supervision. The role guides the development of robust test plans, procedures, and protocols to validate engineering designs, ensuring stringent compliance with high-quality and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electromagnetics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with relevant experience, or experience with a Master’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience working with complex electromagnetic systems or superconducting magnet technologies is highly valued.
  • You have experience with superconducting magnet design, operation, and component development, including coils, cryogenic systems, and supporting structures.
  • Experience using magnetic materials to shape and optimize magnetic fields and improve system performance.
  • Ability to apply electromagnetic theory to real-world engineering challenges.
  • Experience performing quench propagation analysis and quench protection system design to ensure safe and reliable magnet operation.
  • You have experience conducting combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis for magnet systems and working with engineering tools such as Mathcad, ANSYS, Opera-3D, Inventor, SpaceClaim, LabVIEW, and MATLAB.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to write your own software using C++, C#, and/or Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of magnet stability and performance considerations in high-field applications is preferred.
  • Familiarity with evaluating system stability and failure scenarios is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and program management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex electromagnetic systems, identify root causes, and develop effective technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience using advanced electromagnetic design and simulation tools such as Opera, ANSYS Maxwell, HFSS, Remcom, CST, or similar software to model and optimize electromagnetic systems.
  • Ability or willingness to develop custom software tools to support modeling, simulation, and data analysis, using languages such as C++, C#, or modern scripting languages like Python.
  • Experience interpreting simulation results and translating them into practical design improvements and engineering recommendations.
