About The Position

VHB’s Metro DC offices (Washington, D.C. and Tysons, VA) is looking for a full-time Project Planner to join our Planning + Design team, which works with both public- and private-sector clients in the Washington, DC, region and beyond to generate creative and implementable solutions to complex mobility challenges. We seek a self-motivated team player with a growth mindset and a keen interest in urbanism, transit-oriented development, walkable communities, and people-centered mobility solutions. In this role, you would join a dynamic, fast-paced team known for collaborative problem-solving, technical versatility, and adaptability, and you would have a chance to contribute to some of the most transformative transportation and urban development projects in the Washington, DC, region. Requirements

  • Data analysis, including geospatial data
  • Experience developing visualizations, graphic representations, and summary narratives from technical data
  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools such as ArcGIS and Excel
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Short-listed candidates will be asked to provide a brief writing or visualization sample from a previous academic or professional experience
  • Comfort working with and communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • General working knowledge of the region’s planning context and communities, history, and trends
  • Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Nimble work style, with ability to pivot as new information and findings become available
  • Interest in collaborating with colleagues across technical disciplines, including planning, engineering, architecture, urban design, and environmental
  • 1-3+ years of work experience; a master’s degree in city and regional planning or a planning related field can be substituted for two years of work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of multimodal planning studies, transportation analyses, policy and planning analyses, and report documents for local governments, private entities, or institutional clients
  • Analyze data and develop visualizations, mapping, and graphics to help communicate various planning findings
  • Assist with development of support materials for community involvement activities
  • Perform field data collection
  • Provide support for and participate in virtual and in-person community engagement and public meetings
  • Help prepare for client-facing meetings, potentially participate in meetings as needed
