About The Position

We are seeking a seasoned Project Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and manage the performance of our mechanical engineering team designing mobile solutions. As the technical leader of the design team, you will work closely with project design engineers, stakeholders, and external suppliers to ensure successful and timely project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret highly technical documents.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex mechanical engineering concepts.
  • Ability to interpret and apply fundamental electrical engineering concepts.
  • Robust knowledge and skill set in Solidworks 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Ability to manage and perform in stressful environments.
  • Proficient in technical writing and explanation of technical procedures.
  • Strong mechanical intuition.
  • Proficient in problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to regularly visit customer sites to service and build mobiles.
  • Ability to lead training sessions on-site for customers, engineers and maintenance groups.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Field experience and ability to manage and lead efforts towards mobile refurbishment, construction, testing, maintenance, and training

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of mechanical design engineers, providing guidance and oversight on project design, development, and implementation
  • Ensure regular design reviews, checks, and coordination with internal and external resources
  • Communicate project updates and receive feedback from stakeholders, including Chief Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, Production, and Division Management
  • Ensure project design engineers meet project milestone dates, including major equipment release, drawing submittal, and factory acceptance testing
  • Generate and manage project bill of materials, work planning, and personnel allocation to ensure projects stay on budget and on schedule
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on mechanical design, equipment selection, trailer design, and structure development
  • Lead at least one mobile solution mechanical design project
  • Ensure conformance to engineering standards, promoting repeatable engineering practices
  • Provide production with guidance, instructions, and drawings to ensure accurate and efficient builds
  • Verify customer specifications are captured on mechanical drawings and alert management when specs cannot be met
  • Promote coordination between Project Design Engineers and Electrical Engineers to meet project schedules
  • Peer review design layout approval drawings and ensure professional and mechanically sound drawing packages are released
  • Lead weekly engineering meetings to review progress, remove design challenges, and ensure project completion
  • Verify designs meet electrical phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground clearances, state and federal DOT requirements, and mechanical and operational clearances
  • Track design engineer BOM uploads and ensure long-lead time equipment is released early in the project
  • Transition new orders to mechanical designers, ensuring they have all necessary information
  • Participate in the bidding process, advising management on design resources needed and impact on backlog
  • Offer recommendations for cost sheet development and review existing components for more efficient design and fabrication
  • Work closely with external electrical engineering suppliers and internal Electrical Engineering Manager to recognize potential design impacts
  • Collaborate with Project Management Engineer on customer communications, ensuring prompt submission of design questions and managing responses
