About The Position

Albemarle is seeking a Project Mechanical Engineer for the Kings Mountain site to provide Mechanical Engineering design and support for Site Capital Projects. What You Will Do This role is intended for candidates with a strong Mechanical Engineering background, with hands-on experience in mechanical system design and plant equipment reliability. Lead and participate in safety tailgates; follow Albemarle safety work rules and procedures; maintain safety awareness. Lead and participate in the design, procurement, and commissioning mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping systems, and rotating equipment. Lead and participate in installation, checkout, startup, troubleshooting, and performance testing of new plant mechanical equipment. Develop and review P&IDs, mechanical specifications, equipment layouts, and piping designs and other engineering deliverables required for project success. Prepare construction packages including location plans, installation details, scope definition, equipment lists, and mechanical datasheets. Support mechanical design, startup, and troubleshooting (e.g., vibration analysis, thermal expansion, stress analysis, alignment, and reliability improvements). Opportunities to provide project management support for capital projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (required) — other disciplines will not be considered for this role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel, Access, Word, SAP, and engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in an industrial plant environment with mechanical systems design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, ASME, API, and other relevant mechanical codes and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative approach to engineering problem-solving.
