About The Position

Position Summary: The Project Manager I is primarily responsible for driving various customer-specific and internal projects to completion. This position will help the Power Contracting Operations Group to create value through analyzing project results and help develop the business decisions that result from the projects. The position is responsible for working with the Operations group members on monthly reporting of operational and financial metrics and interfacing with customers, and Power Contracting business personnel as required, and other projects as needed. This role will help identify and solve business issues by using finance and modeling skills to reach conclusions. Therefore, a strong knowledge of finance/accounting, business acumen and excellent communication skills are required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of utility-related project management experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management fundamentals.
  • 4-year college degree preferably in operations, project management, or business management.
  • Experience in project structuring.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of an organization and build trusting relationships in short periods of time.
  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis, including financial statement interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of standard accounting principles, project accounting practices, and financial systems.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency.
  • Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships
  • High commitment to achieving goals and plans.
  • Demonstrated skills in written communications; ability to compose basic as well as complex technical documents, formal letters, invoices.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral communications; ability to make presentations to both small and large, diverse groups.
  • High energy level with the ability to work in a fast paced, ambiguous environment with a bias for action.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills General understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit contract pricing mechanisms.
  • Working knowledge of the techniques needed to lead and influence others in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must have valid driver license
  • Job will involve approximately 30% travel, generally within Arizona/New Mexico

Nice To Haves

  • Financial studies and knowledge of the electricity and electrical construction market is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct project supervision and project workflow.
  • Maintain proper levels of quality control, meet all project schedules, and ensure an efficient utilization of resources.
  • Communicate project status to management and to the client.
  • Develop project specifications and implement practices which will achieve defined objectives to the satisfaction of the client and of management.
  • Maintain working knowledge of utility company policy and procedures in order to communicate effectively with various professional staff’s from client companies.
  • Be well versed in the basic tenants of line construction and maintenance. Must have a working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code and the ability to recognize distribution equipment and associated hazards.
  • Be held accountable for maintaining all confidences regarding highly sensitive and proprietary information.
  • Manage/develop models for reporting operational KPIs and information flow into monthly performance reports.
  • Interact with other members of the Finance and Operations group to lead analysis of information in preparation of monthly leadership reports.
  • Support members of the Finance and Operations group to aide understanding and articulation of business drivers and performance.
  • Develop, track, and submit projected revenue, earned value, and other operational metrics.
  • Proactively participate in meetings with construction supervisors and obtain the necessary technical, financial, and operational input for appropriate reporting.
  • Additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.
  • Assist Estimating department in putting together new estimates based on the historical reporting from past projects.
