Project Manager

Pacific Legal Foundation
Remote

About The Position

You: An experienced project manager, ideally with a background in policy or law. You enjoy turning ideas into reality by facilitating collaboration between specialists and teams across a large, diverse organization. You’re a process-oriented thinker who thrives as the ringleader of a circus: developing, managing, and implementing processes and systems that facilitate the implementation of Project Management best practices. You excel at information sharing and have a clear and direct verbal and written communication style. Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There’s a lot of government overreach out there, and it’s backed by seemingly endless resources. But fortunately, like all lumbering giants, abusive government is most vulnerable when countered by individuals who act strategically and nimbly, take calculated risks, have each other’s backs, and are confident in and passionate for the cause—the very sort of swashbucklers we employ in spades here at PLF. Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the U.S. Supreme Court, with 18 victories out of 20 cases heard by the Court. We also have nearly two hundred active cases across the nation. We are a next-generation public interest law firm. What does “next generation” mean for a legal nonprofit? It means we aren’t interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game. Here’s what you get to do in this role: PLF is a growing organization, with team capabilities that are maturing quickly; and with that comes an increased need for intentional coordination of projects and processes across our growing teams throughout the firm. That’s where you come in. Approximately half your time will be spent as a dedicated project manager directly embedded on cross-functional projects; the other half focused on building PM capabilities across the organization. Essentially, you’ll act as the project manager for major cross-functional projects while also working with teams to level up their own project management systems & workflows.

Requirements

  • 5 years of project management experience
  • Working across teams and reporting structures to get work done
  • Developing and implementing processes, including developing project management and information sharing systems
  • Administering project management software in a team setting (we use Asana)
  • Facilitating information sharing across multiple systems (Asana, Salesforce, SharePoint, and Quorum are the big 4 at PLF)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the agile project management methods is certainly helpful, but can be learned on the job
  • Experience with law/litigation is not required, but could be a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement project management systems at the organization, department, and team levels
  • Facilitate coordination across communications, legal, research, policy, and operations capabilities to ensure timely delivery of products
  • Serve as PLF's Asana platform owner — manage workspace configuration, maintain naming conventions and structural standards, onboard new users, and troubleshoot adoption issues across teams
  • Develop and maintain a library of PM templates and playbooks — including project charters, RACI frameworks, status update formats, and meeting cadence guides tailored to PLF's cross-functional work
  • Design and deliver PM training for staff and supervisors — covering core project management concepts, Asana workflows, and effective cross-functional project collaboration
  • Coach project leads across the organization on an as-needed basis — helping teams scope work, sequence dependencies, and course-correct when projects stall
  • Build and document PLF's project management standards — establishing shared language, escalation paths, and decision-making frameworks so projects run effectively, consistently whether or not this role is directly embedded
  • Partner with individual teams to map and improve their internal workflows and identify where friction between team processes impedes effective coordination

Benefits

  • competitive compensation
  • medical
  • dental
  • employer-paid retirement
  • Generous PTO
  • flextime
  • a strong culture of internal advancement
