About The Position

The Project Manager at Chalk Point Generation Station plays a vital role in optimizing plant operations through engineering expertise, performance analysis, and project management. This position involves monitoring key plant systems, leading root cause investigations, overseeing electrical and control system maintenance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The role also manages capital projects, contractor coordination, and ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory standards to maximize plant reliability and efficiency.

Requirements

  • The role requires at least three years of direct, hands-on experience in a power plant environment.
  • A four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred. While Electrical Engineering is ideal, degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Power Generation Engineering, or other fields closely related to power plant operations and industrial systems will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in power plant operations, maintenance, and engineering, with comprehensive knowledge of both operational and maintenance processes.
  • Proven experience performing root cause analyses for equipment failures, forced outages, and generation losses, including developing and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Proficiency in evaluating, analyzing, and optimizing Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and other control systems to enhance plant efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of condition monitoring techniques, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, to proactively assess equipment health and prevent failures.
  • Experience managing instrumentation and measurement systems, including calibration, troubleshooting, and ensuring accurate, reliable data acquisition for operational decision-making.
  • Track record of implementing cost-effective solutions that improve reliability, optimize plant performance, and reduce operational risks.
  • Hands-on experience with real-time performance management software, such as OSIsoft PI systems, and with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Data Acquisition and Handling Systems (DAHS) to ensure environmental compliance and monitor critical plant metrics.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards, and NERC reliability requirements, with the ability to maintain compliance while supporting operational excellence.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings, conclusions, and recommendations clearly to multiple audiences.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor plant performance, focusing on combustion and steam turbines and the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), analyze heat rate and efficiency trends, and recommend operational improvements to maximize profitability.
  • Track and document forced outages and generation losses, perform root cause analyses, and complete all reporting to ensure operational accountability and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate mechanical and electrical equipment failures, determine underlying causes, propose corrective actions, and implement cost-effective solutions to prevent future downtime.
  • Support investigations of plant problems, accidents, and unusual events by providing detailed analyses, technical recommendations, documented reports, and follow-up action plans.
  • Implement and manage condition monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, to proactively assess the health and performance of critical plant equipment.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation and measurement systems to ensure accurate and reliable data acquisition for operational decision-making.
  • Conduct routine testing, calibration, and verification of protective relays, circuit breakers, and other electrical protection devices to maintain safety, reliability, and compliance.
  • Evaluate and optimize the performance of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to improve operational efficiency, responsiveness, and control system reliability.
  • Oversee the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, and distribution panels, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to plan, design, and implement electrical system upgrades that enhance plant reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate standardized work practices, procedures, and accurate site drawings to support consistent operations and documentation integrity.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms, equipment manufacturers, and vendors to resolve field issues, implement design changes, and facilitate effective technical information exchange.
  • Develop, negotiate, and manage contracts and work scopes for external contractors to ensure efficient allocation of resources and timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Conduct reliability studies on plant systems and equipment to identify improvements that maximize availability, capacity factors, and overall operational performance.
  • Evaluate plant design and operational practices, providing recommendations to reduce costs, enhance efficiency, and improve long-term performance.
  • Oversee capital improvement projects from planning through execution, ensuring adherence to budgetary guidelines, schedules, and contractual obligations.
  • Actively participate in and fully support NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs, ensuring all activities meet or exceed established safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) standards by aligning engineering and operational processes with reliability requirements and contributing to documentation, reporting, and audit readiness.
  • Complete other projects and tasks as assigned to support plant operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Benefits

  • This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $135,000 to $160,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
