About The Position

The Project Manager leads medium to large architectural projects from early planning through construction, overseeing design development, budgeting, scheduling, specifications, and construction documents. The role serves as the primary client contact, ensures design intent is maintained, manages project teams, coordinates with agencies and consultants, and resolves project challenges while supporting profitability and strong client relationships. This position is located in Portland, Oregon and will support Bassetti Architects, a design studio of HMC Architects. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays.

Requirements

  • Architectural degree from an accredited university or equivalent demonstrated proficiency.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in architectural document production, coordination, and project management.
  • Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of contractual liabilities, fee calculations, and scope management.
  • Ability to make sound decisions, exercise good judgment, and involve appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ability to assign and delegate tasks respectfully to staff, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ability to write/edit specifications and correspond with agencies, consultants, and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills: goal-setting, prioritization, planning, and time management.
  • Ability to estimate hours for tasks and complete work within agreed-upon budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and manage up to six team members across all project phases.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide performance feedback; assist with evaluations.
  • Maintain primary client contact; manage client relationships and follow-through to secure repeat work.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing projections, fees, and billing.
  • Prepare work plans, meeting minutes, change orders, RFIs, and professional correspondence.
  • Review agreements, write RFPs, and negotiate contracts and fees.
  • Collaborate with design, production, construction admin, and consultants to maintain design intent.
  • Participate in design charrettes; promote design quality and integration of design principles.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, utilities, and resolve plan check / approval issues.
  • Review documents for quality, coordination, code compliance, and deliverable requirements.
  • Oversee materials and systems selection; review cost estimates and perform value analysis.
  • Supervise preparation of construction documents; ensure completeness of specifications.
  • Support collection of aged accounts payable and contribute to resource-efficient project delivery.
