The Manager I, Projects leads complex, cross functional initiatives that advance Goodwill of Colorado’s strategic goals and mission of helping people overcome using data and digital capabilities. In addition to traditional Project Management responsibilities, this role performs business systems analysis activities to ensure solutions are clearly defined, operationally sound, and aligned with organizational and constituent business needs. The role of Project Manager bridges Mission, Operations, Technology and various enterprise functions, ensuring initiatives are delivered on time, within budget, and with the targeted uplift to business and mission operations.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ proven experience leading complex, cross-functional projects. Strong project management, planning, and risk management skills.
  • Solid business analysis skills, including requirements elicitation and process mapping. Ability to translate business needs into actionable delivery scope.
  • Knowledge and experience Familiarity with systems development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies (Agile, hybrid, or waterfall).
  • Experience managing Software as a Service (SaaS) and vendor-led technology implementations.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills with ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non technical stakeholders and to tailor communications to executive, middle management, and subject matter expert (SME) audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and confidence building. Sound judgment in balancing delivery, analysis, and operational realities.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills with a strong orientation towards modeling problems and solutions in terms of cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Effective financial and schedule management. Understanding of basic financial concepts, including capital vs operating expenditures.
  • Ability to investigate complex project issues and collaborate with business and technical staff for suitable solutions.
  • Experience with projects of various sizes, ranging from small to large/enterprise-scale.
  • Per auto vehicle insurance carrier requirements: For applicants/employees to qualify for inclusion on the Goodwill driver insurance schedule, for purpose of driving Goodwill fleet vehicles, or for purpose of receiving company mileage reimbursement they must be at least: 21 years of age (not engaged in passenger transportation), 25 – 70 years of age for all passenger transportation services, 25 years of age for CDL.
  • Applicants/employee will be required to undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check; applicants/employees must disclose all moving traffic violations or vehicle crashes (within the last five (5) years)(Note: not all violations are a disqualification for employment and each case will be reviewed by the insurance carrier); must have valid Colorado State driver license; must also be able to operate company vehicle, and adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws governing vehicle operation.
  • Applicants/employees using their personal vehicle for company business (receiving company mileage reimbursement), must have valid vehicle insurance, valid driver license, and vehicle must be in roadworthy condition.

Nice To Haves

  • In addition, industry certifications are preferred (e.g., PMI, IAPM, PRINCE2).
  • Experience in nonprofit, retail, or multi-site operational environments is preferred, as is experience with enterprise platforms (ERP, CRM/digital rights management (DRM), Human Resources (HR) and retail systems (POS, warehouse/inventory, workforce).
  • Familiarity with tools for requirements management, DevOps, test management and automation, defect tracking, Microsoft .NET/Azure, and structured query language (SQL) are all pluses.
  • Knowledge or experience with digital transformation a plus.
  • It is preferred that the incumbent have the ability to drive for company business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and community impact goals.
  • Ensure that project decisions consider impacts to frontline staff, donors, shoppers, and program participants.
  • Balance innovation and change with operational stability and service continuity.
  • Plan implementations with sensitivity to business realities, including location hours, peak activity periods, and staffing constraints.
  • Ensure readiness activities such as testing, training coordination, operational validation, and others are completed prior to go live.
  • Plan and manage the end-to-end project lifecycle, including intake, scope, schedule, budget, risks, dependencies, and deliverables as to maximize value and mission impact.
  • Lead projects and initiatives such as enterprise system implementations and enhancements (e.g., point of sale (POS), customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), communication and collaboration technologies), new technology launches and adoption such as general-purpose and purpose-built AI tools, business process engineering and digital enablement.
  • Drive collaboration and coordination across internal teams, vendors, and external partners to ensure successful execution and target results.
  • Manage interdependencies across concurrent initiatives in a resource-conscious environment.
  • Manage project budgets with strong fiscal discipline and transparency.
  • Support vendor contract management, invoicing, and cost controls.
  • Build strong partnerships with executives, business leaders, IT, and other functional teams.
  • Identify change impacts and coordinate training and communication plans with business leaders.
  • Serve as the primary contact and first point of escalation for project risks, issues, and decision points.
  • Identify and manage project risks, including operational, financial, and compliance risks as well as those to quality, schedule, and product capabilities.
  • Enable the company to establish and refine project governance, procurement, and change management processes.
  • Develop test strategies and plans aligned with outcomes, documented requirements, and user expectations, ensuring the success of the project overall.
  • Maintain documentation appropriate for audit, funding, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with business team members to understand business/user needs, elicit, analyze, and document business requirements, workflows, and system needs that drive desired outcomes.
  • Translate business needs into clear, complete, and testable functional requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze current state processes and systems; identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities, shaping scope and the to-be state by clarifying trade-offs, dependencies, and constraints.
  • Support solution design by validating that proposed system capabilities and changes align with business objectives and constraints.
  • Maintain alignment and traceability across business outcomes, priorities, requirements, and test cases.
  • Act as a steward of the technology-enabled business outcomes, coordinating across technical and non-technical teams.
  • The incumbent must be adept with reprioritizing responsibilities depending on the needs of the department and the organization. They may be assigned additional/different duties occasionally to help support the IT group and the company.
