About The Position

Through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program, GDIT offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands-on training and professional experience as a Project Manager Fellow, supporting internal mission initiatives across General Dynamics lines of business and functional organizations. In this Fellowship, participants will observe and participate in real-world project management activities within a Project Management Office (PMO), gaining exposure to enterprise governance, stakeholder coordination, and structured project delivery methodologies. The Project Manager Fellow will work alongside experienced GDIT project managers and internal stakeholders to support multiple concurrent projects that enable mission outcomes for internal customer teams. This Fellowship is designed to prepare participants for a successful transition into civilian project management, program coordination, or PMO support roles within government contracting and enterprise organizations. As a Project Manager Fellow, you will train under the guidance of senior project management professionals to develop practical skills in project planning, coordination, and facilitation. Throughout the Fellowship, you will gain experience learning how projects are initiated, governed, and executed in accordance with GDIT methodologies, enterprise standards, and internal governance policies.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience in project coordination, program support, operations, or leadership roles.
  • Prior exposure to structured planning, scheduling, or team leadership environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and lifecycle methodologies.
  • Exposure to working with cross-functional or matrixed teams.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and vendors.
  • Willingness to learn enterprise project governance, risk management, and performance tracking practices.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet) is a plus.
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science required.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain by end of Fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Observing and assisting with project management activities within a PMO environment, supporting 2–4 internal projects across GDIT lines of business and functional areas.
  • Supporting senior project managers in managing project scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
  • Learning how to apply formal project management methodologies, lifecycle gates, and governance controls.
  • Assisting with stakeholder coordination and collaboration across cross-functional, matrixed teams.
  • Participating in facilitation activities, including meetings focused on consensus building and issue resolution.
  • Gaining exposure to vendor coordination and internal relationship management practices.
  • Supporting the preparation of project status reports, presentations, and performance tracking artifacts.
  • Assisting with risk identification, mitigation planning, and resource coordination efforts.
  • Supporting special projects and learning how PMO teams drive positive outcomes across complex internal initiatives.
