This Project Manager role involves leading and overseeing the entire lifecycle of cybersecurity initiatives within the NYC DOE Cybersecurity Operations and Risk Management (CSORM) project. The individual will act as the main point of coordination between the vendor team and DOE leadership, ensuring that all security deliverables are completed on schedule, within scope, and in accordance with DOE compliance standards. Two Project Managers are required for this engagement, which will operate on a hybrid schedule, with three days in the office and two days of telework.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in project management, with demonstrated success leading enterprise-level cybersecurity or IT risk programs.
  • Strong leadership in project planning, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and budget management.
  • Exceptional ability to drive collaboration between technical engineers and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience managing POA&M lifecycle for third-party and internal systems.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
  • CSM (Certified Scrum Master) certification.
  • ITIL-F (ITIL Foundation) certification.
  • Acceptable background check including criminal history background check and credit Check.

  • Experience working within large public-sector or educational institution environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead Project Manager for enterprise cybersecurity and IT risk initiatives, owning end-to-end project delivery from initiation through closeout in large, regulated environments.
  • Drive core project management functions including project planning, scope definition, scheduling, resource coordination, budget tracking, risk and issue management, and dependency oversight across multiple initiatives.
  • Establish and manage project governance, ensuring adherence to CISO priorities, regulatory requirements, and NYCPS standards while maintaining clear documentation, controls, and delivery milestones.
  • Coordinate and facilitate cross-functional execution, managing day-to-day collaboration between technical teams, business units, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Oversee the POA&M lifecycle as a project deliverable, tracking remediation activities for internal systems and third-party vendors, managing timelines, and driving closure of security findings.
  • Produce and deliver executive-ready project reporting, including status dashboards, risk and issue logs, dependency tracking, and escalation briefings for senior leadership.
  • Submit weekly status reports and monthly steering committee reports covering accomplishments, upcoming activities, risk summaries, and milestone status.
  • Ensure measurable project outcomes, driving accountability, resolving delivery blockers, and confirming that projects achieve defined cybersecurity, compliance, and risk-reduction objectives.
