The project manager position is responsible for leading/managing various Product, Technology and Lean Management related projects for a fast-growing company in the 401k and retirement services sector. The position requires working with Product Owners, IT resources, business stakeholders and executive leadership to scope projects, develop and implement project plans while taking ownership of delivering projects on time and on budget. This role is responsible for leading the project team members throughout the lifecycle of a project, including developing, implementing, and executing planning efforts while ensuring the appropriate PM artifacts such as Charter, Plan, Update, ROI Summary, Communication & Closing/Retro documents are leveraged within established best practices.

  • Manages a portfolio of 6 to 8 projects including high exposure & complex technology focused initiatives that will drive significant return across the firm
  • Leads project teams in coordination activities, including facilitation of project kickoff meetings, weekly project status meetings, work break down and status tracking, project/program reporting and project closure activities
  • Ensures that project team tasks are appropriately allocated to the team members best equipped to complete them and ensure appropriate reallocation of tasks across the team to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • Takes ownership in delivering projects on time, escalating issues as identified while working swiftly to remove barriers that present risks to the project.
  • Resolves project team issues quickly and makes effective decisions, in collaboration with PCS management, to keep team members productive on a ongoing basis
  • Establishes project team execution standards and meeting cadences, including the standard usage of project management tool usage in a manner consistent with program management guidelines
  • Partners closely with Product Owners and members of IT resources to manage technology focused projects
  • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
  • Effectively manages new project team demand, including facilitating and managing new work (intake) requests and change controls
  • Works with the project team, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to influence and drive decision making for key decisions impacting the project team’s scope, costs, resources and schedules
  • Contributes to the advancement and improvement of project management practices and tools across the organization. Coaches team members, business partners and stakeholders on project management best practices.
  • Leads ROI calculation discussions, and documents forecasted returns
  • Effectively communicates with senior leadership to ensure the projects are aligned with their goals
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management information systems, computer science, or related field highly desired
  • 7+ years of expert project management experience in financial services
  • Project Management certifications, including PMP, CSM and/or SAFE Agilist, highly desired
  • Understanding of both agile and waterfall methodologies, experience leading agile scrum teams in a remote environment, preferably with at least 2 years of experience being a SCRUM master.
  • Experience managing cross-functional remote project teams of various sizes (smaller vs larger teams) and understanding of the appropriate project management techniques dependent on team size
  • Proven experience with business and technical analysis, business process modeling/mapping.
  • Excellent judgment, decision making skills, and the ability to work under continual deadline pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and collaborating across geographically distributed remote teams
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communications / presentation skills, and experience presenting to senior executives, decision makers, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and comfortable working through ambiguity
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with project management tools (Jira, Confluence, and Salesforce), and office productivity tools (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
