About The Position

The Project Manager will work closely with BPR Parks Planning and Construction Team to manage Parks and Trails Capital Projects. Responsibilities include creating budgets, overseeing design and construction of park facilities, recreation amenities, and open spaces. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Reporting relationships, work assignments and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Under supervision of the Parks and Trails Planning and Construction Manager, the Project Manager develops and manages capital improvement and maintenance projects for park facilities. Leads planning, organization, and coordination of construction for capital improvement and maintenance projects. Manages City Review Process to ensure Connect Bentonville Plan is constructed alongside development projects. Works with purchasing to plan and coordinate bidding of public infrastructure projects. Provides technical support (both in the planning stages and during on-site construction) and manages all aspects of capital construction projects. Works with Parks Planner and Bike and Pedestrian Planner to oversee consultants and contractors and may oversee staff performing capital construction work. Prepares construction specifications, bidding documents, contractors, and change orders. Conducts frequent field inspections to monitor contract work , inspect projects for quality control and manage site development. Conducts periodic inspections of facilities. Communicates with other department / city staff as appropriate to initiate required corrective action. Mains regular attendance and punctuality. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Construction Management or related field
  • three (3) years of work in related position; or five (5) years of experience related to the job description; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of park planning, design and construction; and federal, state and local laws affecting land use and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Certifications such as CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional), AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) or PLA (Professional Landscape Architects) is preferred, but not required.
