About The Position

Radiolab seeks a Project Manager to support the continued growth and ambition of the show. This person will be the right hand to the Executive Director (ED). This role will be comprised of three parts: work side-by-side with the ED providing creative and administrative support; liaise with other New York Public Radio departments; and help push Radiolab in new and innovative directions. This role provides operational and strategic support to Radiolab and Terrestrials across special projects, partnerships, live events, and ongoing revenue-driving initiatives. Working closely with Radiolab's Executive Director, this position combines operational excellence with strategic and creative thinking to shape an innovative future for the show. The role requires detail-oriented project management, strong relationship-building skills, and the versatility to produce written and visual materials for projects as needed. The ideal candidate brings a passion for storytelling and for creating order out of well-intentioned chaos and for collaborating with other departments and partners who might approach topics and projects very differently.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of project management experience, preferably in media, public radio, or nonprofit environments
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines and priorities
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with experience coordinating and partnering across departments (production, legal, finance, marketing, etc.)
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with experience managing external partners and stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Experience with budget tracking, timeline management, and project documentation
  • Proficiency in project management tools and collaborative platforms (Airtable, Slack, Google Workspace, Dropbox, etc.)
  • Passion for storytelling, particularly science and human-centered narratives
  • Proactive problem-solver who can anticipate needs and address challenges before they arise
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a creative, fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinker who can balance big-picture goals with tactical execution
  • Flexible and adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing or coordinating live events
  • Background in content production across multiple formats (audio, video, social media)

  • Familiarity with podcast production workflows
  • Existing relationships in the podcast, public media, or science communication space

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development and lead execution of priority projects for Radiolab and Terrestrials through project management, cross-departmental collaboration, and hands-on task completion
  • Coordinate projects across production, legal, finance, publicity, marketing, revenue, and external partner teams
  • Manage the roll out of a variety of initiatives including tentpole episodes and mini-series, video pilots, live events, multiplatform audience engagement projects, and fundraising campaigns
  • Experience with ever-evolving plans that might change and need to be modified last minute.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions and contribute operational and strategic insights to inform decision-making
  • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders across departments to ensure alignment on priorities and timelines
  • Provide regular updates to the Executive Director and seek approval on project decisions and partnership opportunities
  • Participate in partnership development and coordinate relationships with outside organizations for collaborations
  • Execute partnership opportunities from proposal through delivery, working closely with the Executive Director
  • Liaise with external partners to manage goals, timelines, deliverables, and ongoing relationships
  • Participate in development and coordinate execution of live events including shows, membership events, festival appearances, and conference presentations, as needed
  • Coordinate logistics, partner communications, and event deliverables
  • Project manage intellectual property extensions and opportunities such as book series, licensing deals, and creative experiments, as needed
  • Support strategic development for media initiatives across social platforms, YouTube, and experimental channels
  • Contribute operational support to revenue-driving projects and initiatives
  • Draft communications and presentations for staff updates, stakeholder pitches, and partner materials on projects, as needed
  • Provide support for grant writing and reporting processes, as needed
