About The Position

Project Manager – Pension Location: Remote Salary: $130-170k Sabot Consulting is seeking a highly experienced consultant to support governance and strategic planning initiatives for a state public pension board. The consultant will report to senior management and work closely with board committees, executive staff, and legal counsel to advance fiduciary oversight and strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in governance and strategic planning roles with public pension system boards and senior management.
  • Proven ability to work independently with boards in a transparent and public-facing environment, adhering to open meeting laws
  • Demonstrated experience preparing strategic plans, governance materials, and policy recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of fiduciary responsibilities and governance structures in public pension systems.
  • 2 years experience managing large pension projects.
  • Successful delivery of at least 2 large complex projects as lead PM
  • PMP from Project Management Institute.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with California-based pension systems such as CalSTRS or CalPERS.
  • Experience implementing Sagitech Neospin.
  • Familiarity with benchmarking practices across global pension funds.
  • Advanced degree in Public Administration, Law, Finance, or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex governance topics to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate board self-evaluations, performance appraisals, succession planning, and consultant evaluations during annual board offsite meetings.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and technical teams to define high-level technical
  • Guide the strategic planning process in collaboration with senior executives and the Enterprise Strategic Management Division.
  • Attend and contribute to Board Governance Committee meetings and other board-related sessions as requested.
  • Prepare written materials including agenda items, policy analyses, and benchmarking research for board and committee review.
  • Collaborate with the Office of General Counsel to support governance planning and compliance
