About The Position

Are you passionate about high quality environmental work, innovation, and superior client service? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, self-motivated Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources with strong interpersonal skills and experience in natural resources management and biological studies. This individual will successfully drive our projects through all phases from early planning and permitting to construction. This is a regular (with benefits), full-time, salaried, exempt position that will report to our Amherst, MA office. Highly qualified remote-based candidates will be considered, but candidates within commuting distance from our Amherst, MA or Southborough, MA office will be preferred. This requisition can hire at two levels: Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources; typically, with up to five (5) years of relevant experience and expertise. Project Manager - Natural Resources; typically, with up to seven (7) years of relevant experience and expertise. Individuals with additional project management experience as natural resources consultants are also encouraged to apply. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, geology, or another related field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience performing environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies, surveys, or projects in the private or public sector.
  • One (1) year of project management experience working within natural resources.
  • Demonstrated experience with federal and state laws such as the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and Regulations, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other state/local agencies.
  • Experience in a range of activities such as biological and wetland surveys; federal, state and local wetland regulations; Endangered Species Act compliance; and Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permitting.
  • Proven ability to manage small to medium-sized projects, and track milestones within schedule and budget expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced work environment, and a desire to work in a highly collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience performing environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies, surveys, or projects in the private or public sector.
  • Two (2) years of project management experience working within natural resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising, mentoring, and providing leadership for other professionals.
  • Professional Certifications including PWS, NHCWS, CESSWI, Registered (Professional) Soil Scientist.
  • Experience working with renewable energy, oil & gas, transportation, and public utilities.
  • Experience leading and performing wetland delineations, environmental compliance inspections and reporting for active construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project manager for small and medium-sized natural resources tasks and projects, including maintaining budgets, schedules, safety, and quality of service.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide project technical support to staff-level biologists and field staff.
  • Take initiative and resolve issues to assure client needs are met effectively.
  • Work with Corporate accounting department to review invoices, expenditures, and project audits for projects/tasks.
  • Implement and administer SWCA's safety procedures and standards of scientific and professional ethics.
  • Lead biological technical field assessments and wetland delineations.
  • Provide peer review for technical reports and environmental permits.
  • Assist with development of key, high growth/high value natural resources opportunities and sales within the Northeast sub-region and market development.
  • Takes responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans (when applicable), and anticipating potential safety hazards.
