About The Position

The Project Manager for Modern & Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art will support the Leonard A Lauder Curator in launching a new research project focused on dada and surrealism. This role involves the initiation, planning, development, and execution of the program, collaborating with various stakeholders to create a research platform and organize databases, while providing administrative support for research and programming. The position is time-limited, with a duration of five years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Art History or Arts Administration; MA preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program administration within a museum setting.
  • Website production experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in English, with reading skills in French or German preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask efficiently and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Adobe Photoshop.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with The Museum System (TMS) and bibliographic software like Zotero.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing organizational processes and calendar for the project.
  • Support the implementation and management of an annual program of research and events, including screenings, workshops, and lectures.
  • Facilitate archival and library research requests in collaboration with the Curator.
  • Assist in website and database construction in partnership with Digital and Technology teams.
  • Coordinate meetings and collaborative work with various Met departments.
  • Ensure proper archival recording of all programming and rights needed for content sharing.
  • Assist in publishing the annual program on the website and drafting reports for supporters.
  • Maintain the image library and prepare presentation materials for lectures.
