About The Position

The Project Manager/Estimator is an integral part of the electrical construction process and ensures competitiveness, profitability, and growth. The Project Manager/Estimator is responsible for preparing cost estimates for various transmission, distribution and substation electrical construction projects by collecting and studying cost information, evaluating bid specifications and drawings, and ensuring a successful bid. The Project Manager/Estimator manages projects that are successful based on safety, quality and cost. The Project Manager/Estimator acts as the lead Project Manager/Estimator and supports others in those roles. Company Overview With roots dating to 1891 and 8,500+ employees, MYR Group Inc. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of estimating / project management experience for a level I
  • Minimum 5 years of estimating/project management experience for a level II
  • Minimum 8 years of estimating/project management experience for a Senior level
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Transmission, Distribution or Substation experience required
  • Proficient in analyzing construction and electrical drawings to accurately formulate an estimate
  • Knowledgeable of electrical materials and methods of installation
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, and written
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities as necessary
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
  • Lead and interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others
  • Self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
  • Self-driven with the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time while working independently

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar field; relevant experience considered in lieu of degree

Responsibilities

  • Complete cost estimates for assigned projects, with definable work tasks for transmission, distribution and substation projects
  • Develop complex estimates with minor errors/omissions
  • Utilize previous work/bidding history to establish production assumptions
  • Track and compare project histories to produce up to date man hours and cost
  • Plan and execute work while meeting customer defined submission deadlines
  • Schedule and attend field job walk with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to determine constructability requirements
  • Attend on site pre-bid meetings and perform job site visits
  • Field job walks and pre-bid meeting may require travel/overnight stays
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors
  • Perform accurate material takeoffs to supply to vendor for pricing
  • Solicit material vendor pricing and subcontractor proposals, including assembly and distribution of project documentation into RFQ/RFP packages
  • Prepare commercial aspects of proposals, including work plans, clarifications/exceptions, etc.
  • Proficient in analyzing construction and electrical drawings to accurately formulate an estimate
  • Perform operational contract redlines and coordinate with the legal department, and understand how contractual items affect the bid/work
  • Lead estimate review process with internal and external stake holders
  • Responsible for leading the estimating team and managing bidding activities
  • Support other Estimators with bidding activities and training
  • Prepare billing per customer requirements and execute change orders
  • Create/utilize a construction schedule
  • Participate in job close-out meetings at the end of a project to close any loops in the estimating process
  • Coordinate meetings, schedule updates, submit deliverables and address outstanding open items as requested by clients
  • Prepare look-ahead documents, weekly and monthly progress reports, and billing information
  • Review and monitor job costs versus budgets for assigned projects
  • Assist construction personnel to understand and determine constructability requirements
  • Lead and mentor other Project Managers
  • Other duties as assigned

Benefits

  • Salary $70,000/$150,000 year
  • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
