Requirements

  • Licensed Architect or Interior Designer in California.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in architecture with demonstrable leadership on civic or public-sector projects
  • Strong command of California codes and public building standards (CBC, ADA, DSA familiarity preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex project logistics
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite; understanding of BIM processes
  • Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams through all phases: Programming, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, and Construction Administration.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary internal and external consultants (structural, MEP/FP, civil, landscape, sustainability).
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality control processes.
  • Serve as primary client liaison for civic clients including city/county agencies, state entities, and public institutions.
  • Facilitate effective communication among client representatives, stakeholders, and internal design teams.
  • Support public meetings, presentations, and design workshops with clarity, professionalism, and responsiveness.
  • Champion design excellence that responds to civic identity, functional performance, regulatory compliance, and sustainability goals.
  • Provide guidance on code analysis, accessibility standards, structural and systems integration, and material selection appropriate to public facilities.
  • Oversee preparation and QA/QC review of drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Mentor junior staff in project skills, professional practice, documentation standards, and design thinking.
  • Foster a collaborative office culture that values professional development.
  • Support recruitment, professional development, and performance feedback processes.
  • Participate in pursuit teams, proposal development, client interviews, and strategic planning.
  • Cultivate client relationships and contribute to long-range practice growth in the civic sector.
