About The Position

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a senior project manager (PM) with medical project management experience for the Planning, Design and Construction Department. PM will provide professional project management and leadership for major Capital Improvement Program (CIP, >$10M TPC) projects at UT Austin for highly technical, mission critical, and sensitive project types. PDC is actively managing a $1.3 billion hospital project, in partnership with the MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as multiple time-critical enabling projects. This position is critical for the successful delivery of these projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline.
  • 10 or more years of experience providing project management of design and construction activities for renovations and new construction, including institutional or commercial facilities.
  • 3 or more years of experience providing project management of capital projects with a Total Project Cost of $10M or more.
  • Experience managing design and construction for projects in the medical/healthcare industry as the owner's representative.
  • Working knowledge of contract documents (plans, specifications).
  • Experience negotiating construction contracts.
  • Working knowledge of life safety and building codes including, NFPA 101, IBC, ASHRAE, Texas Accessibility Standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Experience using Excel, Microsoft Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Architect or Engineer in the State of Texas, or licensure in another state and eligible for reciprocity with the State of Texas.
  • LEED-AP credentials.
  • Experience managing design and construction for projects in a higher education setting as the owner's representative.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex projects involving planning, design and execution of major higher education capital projects by providing project leadership, communication, coordination and conflict resolution to ensure project goals are met.
  • Responsible for project budget, schedule, and procurement of design and construction services.
  • Advocate with integrity for the campus contract negotiations.
  • During construction, direct and/or provide support to Project Team, Construction Administrators, and institution staff in management of construction activities and processes.
  • Stay current in Codes and Regulations applicable to design and construction.
  • Support UT Austin in pre-project planning activities.
  • Participate in or lead process improvement initiatives as assigned by the Assistant Director.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
