About The Position

As a Project Manager 3, you will lead complex, multi-functional construction-focused projects supporting critical national security missions at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This role has a direct impact on execution success within a DOE Hazard Category 2 nuclear facility, requiring strong leadership in construction oversight, field execution, and project delivery. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing construction projects, not solely maintenance, design, or process engineering activities.
  • Proven ability to provide direct construction craft oversight and manage field execution activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of project management tools, techniques, and best practices as applied to construction environments.
  • Experience managing small to large, complex, multi-functional construction projects within regulated facilities.
  • Proficiency in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and performance measurement.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) fundamentals and project controls.
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear, accurate project and construction status reports.
  • Recognized degree in an engineering, construction management, or scientific discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Alternatively, specialized coursework in project or construction management.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in two or more of the following areas: Construction management Project management Engineering (with construction execution responsibility) Project controls Procurement supporting construction activities
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required construction-focused knowledge and skills.

  • Leadership experience in construction and project personnel administration.
  • Advanced skills in construction cost estimating, control, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or structural building systems within nuclear or high-hazard facilities.
  • Experience managing construction activities in DOE, nuclear, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills using creative, analytical, and field-based decision-making approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage construction project activities across assigned initiatives.
  • Direct project teams, construction supervisors, and group leaders to accomplish project-related objectives.
  • Provide direct oversight of construction execution, including craft labor and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project performance against budgets and schedules; identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Assign personnel to key project and construction leadership positions and approve appointments.
  • Contribute to and approve project budgets, schedules, and execution strategies.
  • Participate in division-level policy planning and development related to construction and project execution.
  • Apply professional project management and construction management concepts to resolve complex field and execution issues.
  • Contribute to the development of improved construction and project execution methods and practices.
  • Coordinate activities of other personnel as required to support safe and timely construction delivery.
  • Maintain significant autonomy in determining project objectives, execution methods, and procedures.
