About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to support levees, dams, tunnels, and other conveyance projects, including Sites Reservoir, Delta Conveyance Project, and California Aqueduct Subsidence Program, as part of our industry-leading team based in Sacramento, California. The successful candidate will play a key technical role in delivering projects that enhance the safety, resilience, and performance of critical infrastructure systems across the western United States. The candidate will also have the opportunity to advance into leadership roles within our team, managing tasks or projects while continuing to be involved in technical work. You’ll work alongside senior engineers and technical experts to plan and execute geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for a wide range of levee, dam, tunnel, and conveyance facilities, while also gaining exposure to all phases of project development and delivery. Requirements

  • BA/BS +4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain in 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of subsurface investigations, including drilling exploration boreholes, advancing CPTs, and performing other onsite geotechnical tests at sites throughout the western United States.
  • Review and evaluate soil and rock samples and coordinate laboratory testing under supervision.
  • Perform field inspections and support construction observation activities to monitor progress and conformance with engineering plans, specifications, and construction standards.
  • Conduct geotechnical engineering analyses, including slope stability, seepage, settlement, earth retention, liquefaction, and shallow and deep foundation evaluations.
  • Support seismic stability and deformation analyses of dams, including review of earthquake ground motions, liquefaction potential, and earthquake- and fault-induced deformations.
  • Perform engineering analyses using tools such as Excel, gINT, AutoCAD, LPILE, APILE, Shaft, GeoStudio Suite, and Settle3 under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Assist in evaluating the seismic and hydraulic performance of dams, levees, outlet pipes, and probable maximum flood conditions.
  • Prepare draft geotechnical engineering reports, calculations, and recommendations using Microsoft Office software.
  • Apply applicable codes, regulations, and standards to support technical studies, design, and permitting efforts.
  • Assist with the preparation of designs, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Apply QA/QC procedures to assigned work and support project teams with proposal preparation and other business development activities, as needed.
  • Occasional project / client-related travel may be required.
