About The Position

Tectonic is actively seeking experienced, full-time Project Estimators for upcoming MTA Transit projects (NYC Transit, Metro North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, Staten Island Railway, Bus, etc.), as well as for upcoming NJ Transit and Amtrak projects! Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in planning, estimating, monitoring and project controls of rail transit construction / design-build projects or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills with thorough knowledge of construction industry cost estimating, budgeting principles, practices, and construction means and methods applicable to the heavy civil / rail transit field of work
  • HS Diploma/Equivalent required
  • Ability to understand and interpret written specifications, plans, and construction documents for work orders and build documents
  • Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with clients, supervisors, and Project Team members

Nice To Haves

  • BS Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create Cost Estimates and Project / Program Budgets for various design-build and/or construction efforts
  • Perform Project Site Visits to build and update various project estimates and budgets
  • Develop and present to the client and Project Management Team baseline and updated project budgets, cost projections / estimates-at-completion, and other cost analytics
  • Review, analyze, and comment on baseline contractor payment schedules and breakdowns
  • Create independent cost estimates for Change Orders / Additional Work Orders
  • Review contractor-submitted cost proposals for and create cost comparison documents
  • Assist in Change Order / Additional Work Order negotiations
  • Provide guidance relative to fair-and-reasonable nature of various contractor-submitted cost proposals and associated unit-cost pricings as compared to industry standard pricing
  • Assist with cost / budget elements of Monthly Status Reporting
  • Attend and participate in project meetings as required
  • All related duties as assigned
