The Project Engineer plays a critical support role on construction projects, working closely with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to help keep work on schedule and within scope. From coordinating submittals and RFIs to tracking materials, updating schedules, and managing project documentation, you'll be involved in nearly every phase of the project lifecycle. This role is a great opportunity for someone early in their construction career who's ready to build technical knowledge, strengthen problem-solving skills, and gain hands-on experience in the field and office. As a Project Engineer at RK, you'll be part of a team that values learning, collaboration, and building things the right way.

  • Manage contractual agreements with owners, contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, field staff, and within RKMI's management system.
  • Ensure daily corporate documentation is completed and up to date, including time cards, daily reports, additional work authorizations, receiving documents, as-built drawings, etc.
  • Coordinate timely completion and thorough buy-out procedures on materials and equipment, in conjunction with the superintendent and purchasing department, with emphasis on maintaining all buy-outs under the established budget.
  • Buy-out, negotiate and issue all lower-tier subcontract(s), with emphasis on complete scopes in compliance with the contract documents and within the established budget.
  • Responsible for proper/timely processing of shop drawings, product submittals, operation and maintenance manuals, and recording all as-built drawings.
  • Coordinate and track take-off orders, procurement and release of change orders items with the purchasing department and superintendent(s).
  • Provide forecasted estimate on costs required for completion of project, outstanding extra work total costs, and amount that has been performed but un-billed, encountered busts in the bid, and pending claims.
  • Responsible for job closeout being performed in proper and efficient manner and keeping the project manager and vice president of operation informed of closeout status.
  • Optimize the profitability of the company by demonstrating the ability of a decision maker with reliable and mature judgment.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a related position for Project Engineer 1.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related position for Project Engineer 2.
  • College/university graduate or equivalent combination of skills and experience generally expected for specified technical roles.
  • Fully competent in all conventional aspects of subject matter or functional area.
  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation/modification of standards.
  • Devises new solutions to problems encountered.
  • Independently performs most assignments with instruction and receives guidance for unusual or complex problems.
