About The Position

SyberJet Aircraft is seeking a Project Engineer, to support Aircraft LRU Packaging & Environmental Qualification, with strong mechanical design, aircraft integration, and FAA certification experience related to airborne electronic equipment and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). This individual will lead the definition, design, integration, environmental qualification, and certification support of multiple in-house developed LRUs, working closely with project engineers and cross-functional teams. This role is responsible for delivering LRU packaging solutions that satisfy aircraft environmental, operational, weight, and space constraints while ensuring compliance with RTCA DO-160, 14 CFR Part 23, and applicable company requirements. Candidates must possess experience across the full LRU development lifecycle — including packaging architecture, aircraft installation constraints, environmental qualification planning and execution, certification coordination, and production release. As the technical focal point for LRU mechanical packaging and environmental qualification, you will interface with suppliers, environmental test laboratories, DERs, and electrical, systems, stress, and manufacturing teams to ensure each LRU housing is lightweight, structurally robust, environmentally compliant, certifiable, and optimized for aircraft integration and producibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in aerospace mechanical design, LRU packaging, or airborne equipment development.
  • Hands-on experience defining and / or executing RTCA DO-160 environmental qualification testing.
  • Strong working knowledge of FAA certification processes, compliance methods, industry standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Background in vibration, thermal management, structural considerations, EMI/EMC concerns, and aircraft installation constraints for avionics or electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Catia or Siemens NX, and Teamcenter.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present and document technical information to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with lightweight materials and advanced manufacturing methods.
  • Familiarity with MBSE tools including Siemens Polarian, ANSYS Medini and SCADE.

Responsibilities

  • LRU Packaging and Mechanical Expertise:
  • Serve as an in-house Subject Matter Expert (SME) for airborne LRU packaging and environmental qualification.
  • Lead mechanical design of LRU housing, enclosures, mounting provisions, and structural elements.
  • Ensure packaging accommodates internal electronics, connectors, cooling strategies, and aircraft installation constraints (both physical and environmental).
  • Optimize designs for weight, structural integrity, vibration robustness, thermal performance, EMI / EMC considerations, manufacturability, and maintainability.
  • Define materials, finishes, coatings, and fastening strategies appropriate for the installation environment.
  • Ensure packaging design assumptions align with aircraft safety objectives and system-level requirements.
  • Work within the SyberJet MBSE environment to ensure LRU packaging and installation requirements are clearly defined, traceable, and properly allocated, and that resulting designs demonstrate regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare, review, approve, and release requirements documentation including SCDs, ICDs, and related compliance artifacts.
  • Environmental Qualification (DO-160) Planning & Execution:
  • Define applicable environmental categories based on aircraft installation zones and operational assumptions.
  • Develop and release environmental qualification procedures and reports in accordance with RTCA DO-160.
  • Coordinate and participate in the qualification testing as applicable.
  • Ensure test articles are properly configured and FAA confirmed, and that required approvals are in place prior to testing.
  • Investigate qualification failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective design actions.
  • Ensure qualification assumptions remain aligned with aircraft-level environmental and structural analyses.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers, test labs, and aircraft facilities may be required.
  • Technical Leadership and Coordination:
  • Coordinate with environmental test laboratories, suppliers, DERs, and FAA personnel for test planning, scheduling, and witnessing.
  • Support SRR, PDR, CDR, Qualification Reviews, and Certification Reviews.
  • Identify technical and certification risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical status updates and compliance inputs to program leadership.
  • Facilitate cross-functional integration to resolve interface and design issues while promoting knowledge-sharing across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor engineers on LRU packaging best practices, environmental qualification processes and FAA certification expectations.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Analyze and resolve mechanical and integration challenges, delivering innovative, practical, and certifiable solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Support cost-reduction and weight-optimization initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Product Lifecycle and Tools:
  • Manage product data, configuration control, and design changes using using Teamcenter, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Utilize MBSE tools and methodologies, including Siemens Polarion, ANSYS Medini, and ANSYS SCADE.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • A collaborative, engineering-driven, innovative work environment.
  • The chance to work on cutting-edge aerospace projects with a talented team of professionals.
