About The Position

The Project Engineer will serve as an onsite technical resource supporting the VA Medical Center construction project. Acting as a subject-matter expert in mechanical or electrical systems, this engineer will assist the government project team with documentation reviews, field inspections, and progress verification. The role blends project management support with focused technical oversight to ensure the contractors work aligns with design intent, specifications, and applicable codes.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of construction field experience.

Responsibilities

Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and design clarifications.
Verify contractor documentation complies with contract requirements, specifications, and engineering standards.
Track reviewer comments and maintain organized records of technical documentation.
Conduct onsite inspections of mechanical or electrical installations.
Verify installation quality, system performance, and adherence to approved drawings.
Identify deficiencies and track corrective actions through resolution.
Monitor daily construction activities and evaluate progress against schedules.
Support verification of contractor pay applications, including field quantity checks.
Identify schedule risks or technical issues and elevate concerns promptly.
Collaborate with government representatives, contractors, and design professionals.
Participate in project and coordination meetings, providing updates on technical matters.
Prepare field reports, inspection logs, and other project documentation.
Ensure contractor work complies with specifications, codes, and VA standards.
Support QA/QC processes and assist with system testing, commissioning, and closeout.
Observe site conditions and report unsafe practices or compliance issues.
