About The Position

RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Transportation Project Engineer with Four (4) to eight (8) years of experience to join our team in Seattle. RK&K’s Traffic team serves clients in Traffic Design and Analysis through the RK&K portfolio. Our projects focus on improving operations and safety for motorized traffic and vulnerable road users, providing healthy and livable communities, and implementing technology-based transportation improvements. As a Transportation Project Engineer with RK&K you will work alongside and collaborate closely with one of the largest, most talented groups of traffic engineers and transportation professionals in the industry. You will play a crucial role within our team, developing traffic engineering and ITS designs to improve transportation systems throughout the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Four (4) + years of progressive experience in traffic engineering
  • Exceptional writing, verbal communication and presentation skills including public speaking
  • Experience with MicroStation, GuideSIGN, AGI32, and Adobe Acrobat/BlueBeam
  • Experience with Highway Safety Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and AASHTO guidelines
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Delaware or ability to obtain in six (6) months
  • Writing, verbal communication and presentation skills including public speaking

Nice To Haves

  • Eight (8) + years of progressive experience in traffic engineering
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working with WSDOT and local municipalities

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tasks, including traffic engineering design plans and preliminary engineering design
  • Support projects for all modes of travel including highway, bus, rail, bicycle and pedestrian in urban, suburban and rural environments
  • Develop components of traffic management strategies such as active transportation management, traffic signal systems, and AI based systems
  • Prepare documentation and design plans for traffic control devices, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, and roadway and pedestrian lighting
  • Prepare technical specifications and cost estimates for development of construction documents
  • Perform construction phase services such as shop drawing review, field meetings, and red line revisions
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations
