About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking a Project Engineer Technician and Project Associate Engineers I and II to join the Public Works Department. These positions are regular, full-time roles located at the Annex Building. The pay range varies based on the position level, with the Project Engineer Technician starting at $23.1195 per hour and the Project Associate Engineer II at $27.2132 per hour. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the City Engineer or Water/Wastewater Administrator, assisting in various engineering tasks related to public works improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a college or university with an associate degree in engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience in drafting software such as Civil-3D is preferred.
  • Valid State driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices applicable to a municipal setting.
  • Familiarity with New Mexico land and survey laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate through the State of New Mexico.
  • Experience with project management and engineering research.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing plans and specifications, bid documents, and directing construction of city public works improvement projects.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, consultants, contractors, and the public.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to assist in departmental business.
  • Assist in the design of projects, including collecting preliminary field data and estimating.
  • Work with consulting engineering firms and assist in the preparation and award of bids and contracts.
  • Prepare composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
  • Review plats for compliance with codes and standards and recommend changes.
  • Perform technical research and economic analysis for capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate work schedules of consultants, contractors, and city workforce.
  • Provide advice to supervisors and communicate plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct field surveys, draft and review plans, and produce construction estimates.
  • Prepare and maintain daily, monthly, and annual reports and records.
  • Ensure safety precautions are taken to prevent accidents.
  • Assist other Community Works divisions with capital improvement projects as needed.
