OUC - The Reliable One is presently seeking a Project Engineer System Protection to join the Trans,Substation & Sys Protect division. Must be onsite Tuesdays and Thursdays. W e are looking for a motivated Electrical Engineer with a strong background in power systems and protective relaying to support the design and reliability of substation protection and control systems. They will apply engineering expertise to support capital projects while ensuring compliance with NERC standards. Job Purpose: Design protection and control relaying applications for substations with focus on Protection & Control Settings and SCADA Settings. Expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.). Provide design support to field personnel; develop and maintain sufficient level of expertise in use of CAD software for efficient production of engineering work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited college or university
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the electric utility industry
  • Must have strong understanding of AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards
  • Ability to interpret Protection & Control drawings
  • Strong project coordinator and task tracking abilities
  • This work requires an understanding of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, and electrical engineering principles
  • Additionally, expected to develop or possess expertise in protective relay settings calculations and analysis based on current and evolving standards (IEEE, NERC, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to the following: Interpretation of relay documents and Protection & Control design drawings Analysis and reporting of fault analysis and relay actions Experience with power system modeling and relay coordination studies using Aspen One- Liner software Familiarity with Aspen Relay Database, SEL-5030 AcSELerator, EnerVista UR, Software Applications (i.e. AutoCAD (design/drafting software), Setting (vendor) software, electrical engineer software (ASPEN) and fault analysis software; NERC Reliability standards; Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standards; Gantt Chart development; Vendor instruction books; Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws; Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment.

  • Special training to be completed within two (2) years of hire: Vendor Training System Protection Protective Relay Application Settings and Fault Analysis Software Training CADD Proficiency Leadership Training

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accomplishment of projects through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
  • Generate plans and drawings for projects associated with protective relaying and retrofits
  • Perform fault studies, relay setting calculations and relay loadability studies; ensure North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) requirements are being met
  • Review calculations and relay settings performed by consultants
  • Create requisitions, track materials used in relay projects, and approve invoices associated with engineering work
  • Coordinate capital projects associated with protective relaying and control devices
  • Work with system protection supervisor to track work flow and resources
  • Perform line-testing and provide feedback and recommendations regarding system protection operations and maintenance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
