About The Position

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer Supervisor working on the MQ-9B Team to develop, test, and field the system for customer operations. The position will support development and fielding of a new UAS variant to an international customer who plans to use the system to perform maritime surveillance missions. This individual will support both technical and programmatic management of the program and will be expected to lead engineering, manufacturing, and flight operations teams working on the program. The Project Engineer will report to the MQ-9B engineering manager and be a part of the Chief Engineering team. The candidate will represent the company as a technical subject matter expert on projects, will interact with key suppliers, lead coordination between internal organizations, and lead execution of program activities.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, ten or more years of experience with a master's degree, or seven or more years with a PhD.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice.
  • Ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
  • The capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Travel is required to support customer/vendor meetings and integration/testing at our airport facilities in the high desert and other locations.
  • Supports operation of engineering systems and documents any problems.
  • Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.
  • Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects.
  • Provides direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
